IBlieve Global Virtual Summit

Image
Date: 31/1/2021 Duration: 2 hours I attended the GVS held by Iblieve today. The agenda for today's meeting was to discuss effective exam revisions techniques for each of the groups as well as extended essay tips and tricks.  Firstly, we played some ice breakers to get to know our community better and then we moved on to the first 45-minute session which was about exam revision tips. Here we discussed the best ways to go ahead revising for our exams from each individual group. So each IB grad shared their own personal experiences and techniques that worked for them during their own IB journey. I learnt many new things such as using flashcards for revision as well as a technique which will stop procrastination. The game was before going home each day, you have to give your friend a list of everything you plan to study or complete before tomorrow. If you forget a task on your list, your friend gets a dollar. I think I'm going to try this technique as it will surely stop me from ...

Among Us Discord Server

Image
Date: January 30th 2021. Duration: 5 hours. I've created a small server on Discord to play Among Us games. This server is made for IB students so we can bond and interact with each other and make friends from all over the world because of a game we all love, Among Us.  After sending out an invite to a game of Among Us on the IBlieve slack community and getting a few responses, I realised that I can turn this into something bigger. I decided to create a Discord server and send invites to as many IB students as possible. I sent an invite on the IBO subreddit page and that got us, 20 new members. This gave me the idea to use Instagram to reach out to more people. smartibapp  are an Instagram account with over 70,000 followers and I got in contact with them to see if they would be willing to support us by sending out information to all their followers about their community. I've asked them to give me until Saturday the 6th of February to finish setting up the server by adding the ...

LEAPS competition

Date: 28/1/2021 Time: 5 hours (4 hours working on the project and 1 hour attending the event to present out pitch) I attended the LEAPS competition along with my friends in a group of 4. The mission was to come up with a Business plan and present it to the judges who would grade us on it. There were certain criteria and rules to follow which made this competition unique. We were given the instructions only a day before the competition to put our minds to the challenge. That evening we held a 4-hour meeting where we planned how to go about things as well as completing our presentation. The very next day we had to present our ideas as effectively as possible. I learnt many things during this even including team-work as well as presenting a business pitch.

Writing an article for IBlieve

Image
Date: 24/1/2021 Duration: 3 hours I wrote an article about SAT preparation for IBlieve. The article was posted on their website and is viewable here at this link:  https://iblieve.org/sat-preparation-tips/ .  I learnt many new things during the process of writing the initial draft and the publishing of the article. Firstly, I learnt the steps to undergo when writing articles for a website and that is that there are many drafts and revisions. After writing my first draft, my article was peer-reviewed by two people and therefore I also peer-reviewed two other people's article. After this, I was given suggestions and comments and I made the required revisions before handing in the second draft. This second draft was reviewed by a more experienced writer and I got some more detailed feedback about my style of writing rather than simple grammar and punctuation errors. After making the necessary changes to the article I submitted the final draft which was then published on to ...

Helping at IBlieve in the Social Team

Image
Date: 16/1/2021  I've decided to be an HSA for IBlive and have joined their social team where we plan events and activities to bring the community together. We will be working on Slack where we will co-ordinate plans with each other. I've also taken initiative and sent an invite out to those in the IBlieve community whether they will like to join me for a session of Among Us. It will surely be a lot of fun and I'll get to know more people from around the world.
